Story of El Diablo
It was about summer 04 or 03, was when I got my computer. I had saw a game for 20$ sitting on the shelf. As you guessed, it was Battlefield: 1942. I started playing single player a lot, and got bored, so I started playing on multiplayer. It was on the 1.31 patch, the default one. Not many people were on it. I found about 1-6 servers there a day. For them, a server that holds a lot of people in it was only 14 people.
I had played under the name of *StarfacE*, which I didn’t realize was totally gay and retarded. The two clans at war I remember were =AoA= and -=(CTK)=-. =AoA= got to me first and I was in. I had no idea what I was doing, I didn’t know if we had a site or anything. Then gradually more and more members began to disappear. So I finally took the tag off and resumed with my life.
Then a guy named Swish had started a clan called =DN=. That was when I got my name. At first I thought “Well all of these people’s names are just random nouns or verbs.” So I whipped out my dictionary and began turning to random pages. I found nothing, but then I thought “El Diablo sounds pretty cool.” So I ran with it and that became my new and current name. =DN= died in about a month.
When I was playing in a server on Omaha Beach, Sharp came in with the [2nd Rangers] tag on. Everyone instantly stated begging Sharp to be in his clan, but just said no. Pretty soon I wanted to join, too, same to everyone else: no.
So I decided to make a tag that was «₤æ» and changed my name to the weird symbols and stuff like that on the character map. I was acting like it was just or show, but I knew that I wanted to own my own clan. I knew that I wanted to go into a server and have a couple of people ask me “Hey can I join «₤æ»?”. Now I realize that if that happened, I wouldn’t have been a good leader and things would’ve went all wrong.
One day that really pissed me off was when I was playing in a server with Sharp and a couple of other people and then a guy name Hawkeye came. He killed Sharp a couple of times, which I guess made him good enough to get in =P.
Anyways after a couple of months of playing and getting better, I was finally accepted into a branch from the 2nd Rangers, which was the 3rd Rangers. It was developed as a means of training to become a 2nd Ranger or for new recruits or something. Sharp finally got me accepted into 2nd Rangers while we were playing on Midway I think.
Everything was going good, I went up through the ranks and all that jazz, the clan was getting big and everything was going smooth. Then Dieter came and asked Sharp to unite his clan, {DS}, and Rangers to become one awesome clan. I though “I really don’t care what happens,. If we unite then we get a .net site and we get to be professional and elite, and if not then I just go on like nothing happened and become better.” Sharp and Dieter were negotiating the terms and all, then Hawk stepped in and apparently started cussing out Dieter. Sharp then joined him and the deal was off.
Then one day Hawk, me, and a couple of other members were playing on a server. Someone said something about Sharp left and he is never coming back. So me and Hawk started fooling around and he got from Lieutenant and I got promoted from Staff Sergeant. Our new rank was…….General. We both owned the clan for about 10 minutes. Then we took off the tag. At this time I think Angel Slayer came. We decided to be rebels against clans from now till another clan comes up. Later I realized that Sharp had quit because he wanted all of the members out. He knew that if he quit, everyone quits. Including me.
Sharp came back and started the Rangers over again . We recruited a lot in 1.31 and then in 1.6.
Then we noticed we were being overflowed with all sorts of nØØbs, so Sharp came up with the idea of making a dominant clan. One with only the pros of Battlefield and have been playing for a long time. He posted the names of the people he wanted in the clan on the forum. I took a look at it, and didn’t see Diablo. I was mad, but then I scrolled down and extra 2 inches and saw “and Diablo too if u come back to 1.31.” Then I realized I was good.
We had to decide a name for our elite clan. So me, Sharp, and Angel rendezvoused on Xfire and decided a name and a tag. I think Angel came up with the name Screaming Eagles, and the tag was ~SE~, the ~ representing wings.
This was about the time Sharp broke his video card and wasn’t going to be able to be active on the game anymore. This would turn out to be a major role in what happened later.
Anyways, later, maybe a month or 2 afterwards, the rest of the clan looked at the tag and name thought it looked gay and they didn’t like it. So we started posting possible clan names on the Screaming Eagles forum. Someone said Devil’s Brigade, and Sharp liked it, so we ran with it. Soon our new clan name was the Devil’s Brigade, and the tag was =DB=.
Then an unexpected turn of events happened. Since Sharp couldn’t play at his house and could only play at his mom’s, who’s computer had the 1.6 patch on it. So Sharp said that he and whoever had downloaded 1.61 (which was Angel and Dreadlock) were going to start 2nd Rangers back up, but in 1.61. Steve put up the conversation between him and Sharp on Xfire on the Devil’s Brigade forum that stated exactly that.
I objected at first, but then gave in and downloaded the patch and everything else. I found out that Sharp wasn’t going to start Rangers, so I applied for {DS}. I also found out then that Sharp would join any clan one of the ex Devil’s Brigader would make. Anarchy made one based on his love of the Marines. It was [MFR] (When Sharp told me it was [MFR] I joked and said it stood for Mother F***eR). Anyways, Sharp asked me to join, but said that I was going to join {DS}. He was very persistent, saying things about {DS} like, Dieter isn‘t going to be on because a loss of his Mom, and they are very unorganized. He had asked me time and time again, and I replied that I would think about it.
Finally, amused at how important I was and annoyed at Sharp’s constant pleads of me to join, I finally realized that I’ve know these people my whole life and can’t just leave them, so I joined and got a pretty good rank and lived happily ever after.
Moral of the story: don’t buy Battlefield 1942 because it will confuse and scar you for the rest of your life in the near future.
